LIVE FROM
TWIN TOWERS - 9/11
The World Trade Center (WTC)
VIEW FROM THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
The original World Trade Center was designed by Minoru Yamasaki in the early 1960s using a tube-frame structural design for the twin 110-story towers. In gaining approval for the project, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey agreed to take over the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad which became the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH). Groundbreaking for the World Trade Center took place on August 5, 1966. The North Tower
(1) was completed in December 1970 and the South Tower (2) was finished in July 1971. Construction of the World Trade Center involved excavating a large amount of material which was used in making Battery Park City on the west side of Lower Manhattan.
The complex was located in the heart of New York City's downtown financial district and contained 13.4 million square feet (1.24 million m2)
of office space.[1][2] The Windows on the World restaurant was located on the 106th and 107th floors of the North Tower, while the Top of the World observation deck was located on the 107th floor of the South Tower. Other World Trade Center buildings included the Marriott World Trade Center; 4 World Trade Center; 5 World Trade Center; 6 World Trade Center, which housed the United States Customs; and 7 World Trade Center, which was built in 1985. The World Trade Center experienced a fire on February 13, 1975 and a
bombing on February 26, 1993. In 1998, the Port Authority decided to privatize the World Trade Center,
leasing the buildings to a private company to manage, and awarded the lease to Silverstein Properties in July 2001.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated suicide attack. After burning for
56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1), with the attacks on the World
Trade Center resulting in 2,750 deaths. 7 World Trade Center collapsed later in the day and the other buildings, although
they did not collapse, had to be demolished because they were damaged beyond repair. The process of cleanup and recovery at
the World Trade Center site took eight months. The first new building at the site was 7 World Trade Center which opened in
May 2006. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), established in November 2001 to oversee the rebuilding process, organized competitions
to select a site plan and memorial design. Memory Foundations, designed by Daniel Libeskind, was selected as the master plan, which included the 1,776-foot (541 m) 1 World Trade Center, three office towers along Church Street and a memorial designed by Michael Arad.

ATTACKS
Early in the morning on September 11, 2001, nineteen hijackers took control of four commercial airliners en route to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Boston, Newark, and Washington, D.C. (Washington Dulles International Airport).[1] At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 was crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower, followed by United Airlines Flight 175 which hit the South Tower at 9:03 a.m.[5][6]
Another group of hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m.[7] A fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, whose ultimate target was thought to be either the United States Capitol or White House, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m, after the passengers on board engaged
in a fight with the hijackers.[8][9]
During the hijacking of the airplanes, the hijackers used weapons to stab and/or kill aircraft pilots, flight attendants and passengers. Reports from phone callers from the planes indicated that knives were used by
the hijackers to stab attendants and in at least one case, a passenger, during two of the hijackings.[10][11] Some passengers were able to make phone calls using the cabin airphone service and mobile phones,[12][13] and provide details, including that several hijackers were aboard each plane, that mace or other form of noxious chemical spray, such as tear gas or pepper spray was used, and that some people aboard had been stabbed.[14][15][16][17]
The 9/11 Commission established that two of the hijackers had recently purchased Leatherman multi-function hand tools.[18] A flight attendant on Flight 11, a passenger on Flight 175, and passengers on Flight 93 mentioned that the hijackers
had bombs, but one of the passengers also mentioned he thought the bombs were fake. No traces of explosives were found at
the crash sites, and the 9/11 Commission believed the bombs were probably fake.[10]
On United Airlines Flight 93, black box recordings revealed that crew and passengers attempted to seize control of the plane from the
hijackers after learning through phone calls that similarly hijacked planes had been crashed into buildings that morning.[19] According to the transcript of Flight 93's recorder, one of the hijackers gave the order to roll the plane once it became evident that they would lose control of the plane to the passengers.[20]
Soon afterward, the aircraft crashed into a field near Shanksville in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, at 10:03:11 a.m. local time (14:03:11 UTC). Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, organiser of the attacks, mentioned in a 2002 interview with Yosri Fouda, an al Jazeera journalist, that Flight 93's target was the United
States Capitol, which was given the code name "the
Faculty of Law".[21]
Three buildings in the World Trade Center Complex collapsed due to structural failure on the day of the attack.[22] The south tower (2 WTC) fell at approximately 9:59 a.m., after burning for 56 minutes in a fire caused by
the impact of United Airlines Flight 175.[22]
The north tower (1 WTC) collapsed at 10:28 a.m., after burning for approximately
102 minutes.[22] When the north tower collapsed, debris heavily damaged the nearby 7 World Trade Center (7 WTC) building. Its structural integrity was further compromised by fires, and the
building collapsed later in the day at 5:20 p.m.[23]
The attacks created widespread confusion among news organizations and air traffic controllers across the United States. All international civilian air traffic was banned from landing on US
soil for three days.[24] Aircraft already in flight were either turned back or redirected to airports in Canada or Mexico. News sources aired unconfirmed and often contradictory reports throughout the day. One of the
most prevalent of these reported that a car bomb had been detonated at the U.S. State Department's headquarters in Washington, D.C.[25]
Soon after reporting for the first time on the Pentagon crash, CNN and other media also briefly reported that a fire had broken out on the Washington Mall.[26] Another report went out on the AP wire, claiming that a Delta Air Lines airliner—Flight 1989—had been hijacked. This report, too, turned out to be in error; the plane was briefly thought
to represent a hijack risk, but it responded to controllers and landed safely in Cleveland, Ohio.
"crimes against humanity"
Crimes against humanity, as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court Explanatory Memorandum, "are particularly odious offences in that they constitute a serious attack
on human dignity or grave humiliation or a degradation of one or more human beings. They are not isolated or sporadic
events, but are part either of a government policy (although the perpetrators need not identify themselves with this policy)
or of a wide practice of atrocities tolerated or condoned by a government or a de facto authority.
Murder; extermination; torture; rape and political, racial, or religious persecution and
other inhumane acts reach the threshold of crimes against humanity only if they are part of a widespread or systematic practice.
Isolated inhumane acts of this nature may constitute grave infringements of human rights, or depending on the circumstances,
war crimes, but may fall short of falling into the category of crimes under discussion."[1]

SOULS OF 9/11
WELCOME
YOUR SPIRITS ARE SEEN IN THESE BEAMS OF LIGHT
A breathtaking view from Staten Island, on the second anniversary of 9/11, of the
"Tribute in Light"
at Ground Zero; the illuminated Statue of Liberty; the red, white & blue Empire State Building, directly in between
the Tribute in Light beams; and the Chrysler building. Oh yes, and Mars, just a few weeks removed from its closest approach
to Earth in 60,000 years.
I took this photo from the Staten Island Ferry dock, after riding the ferry across the
harbor just to see what the view of the skyline would look like with the Tribute in Light. Although many photos were taken
and published of the skyline that night, I've never seen another one from this particular angle, which I maintain was the
most beautiful viewpoint in the whole city that night.

"Unwavering Spirit: Hope & Healing at Ground Zero" Located directly across from the World
Trade Center site, St. Paul's Chapel, an Episcopal church, was home to an extraordinary eight-month volunteer relief effort
after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Unwavering Spirit, a new interactive exhibit, honors that ministry
and its legacy of love and compassion. http://www.saintpaulschapel.org/
DARRLY WORLEY
THANK YOU
FOR
CREATING
THIS SONG
YOU HAVE HELPED US REMEMBER HOW A NATION MUST LOOK AT THE PAST WITH MUSIC TO CALM OUR
SOULS
I hear people saying we don't need this war But, I say there's
some things worth fighting for What about our freedom and this piece of ground We didn't get to keep 'em by backing
down They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend
Have
you forgotten how it felt that day? To see your homeland under fire And her people blown away Have you forgotten
when those towers fell? We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout
bin Laden Have you forgotten?
They took all the footage off my T.V. Said it's too disturbing for you and me It'll
just breed anger that's what the experts say If it was up to me I'd show it everyday Some say this country's just out
looking for a fight Well, after 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right
Have you forgotten how it felt that day? To
see your homeland under fire And her people blown away Have you forgotten when those towers fell? We had neighbors
still inside going thru a living hell And we vowed to get the one’s behind bin Laden Have
you forgotten?
I've been there with the soldiers Who've gone away to war And you can bet that they remember Just
what they're fighting for
Have you forgotten all the people killed? Yeah, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania
field Have you forgotten about our Pentagon? All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on Don't you
tell me not to worry about bin Laden Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten? Have you forgotten?
